They came by the dark of night. He was out in the woods, sleeping in the wild by a fire that had long since burned away. When he awoke, the first thing he heard was the screams. They were screams he had not heard ever before on his time on Carpenter Wood, but he knew exactly what they were: screams of pure terror. Something uninvited had entered Carpenter Wood and threatened its inhabitants.
Bolting straight up, he found Charlie already curling onto his arm. Strapping his belt on with his two steelwood bokken, Gerald began to run through the forests. Even the most experienced of woodsmen would likely have trouble keeping up with Gerald in the unkempt wild forests of Carpenter's Wood, but Gerald had grown up on this island and he knew all the paths so his pace was breathtaking.
As he neared the sounds of the screams, he slowed and began to creep quietly and cautiously. Drawing one bokken from the loops on his belt, he saw something he had never dreamed he would see. Outsiders, human outsiders on Carpenter Wood. Gerald had only known of four people on the island during his entire life, himself, his parents, and his brother who died at a young age while Gerald was still a baby. When Gerald saw these strange people defiling his home, he was filled with rage. They were all rough and tumble men, dangerous and armed to the teeth. They were capturing precious rare animals in nets and cages, and as each animal was caught, their cries added to the cacophony of that night.
Drawing the second bokken from his belt, he leaped from the trees and began to attack the men. His arms as supple as a willow branch, the blades danced around like a whirlwind. Each strike was precise and dangerous and none of his hits struck an animal. Men fell left and right, but when Gerald had cleared out most of the men, 5 people stood out from among the rest.
There were two identically dressed figures who stood taller than any man Gerald had ever seen, towering even over Gerald's fairly impressive six feet. There was a tall, gangly, wild looking man with haunting yellow eyes and strange tattoos. There was a young man with white hair and perfectly white clothing standing off to the side staring intently at a pocket watch. And then there was him: the man around whom everything seemed to revolve. A man whose strength far exceeded everyone around him. His hair was as black as night, and his eyes just the same. He wore an old frayed sleeveless red coat that reached down to his knees. But the oddest thing about him was his hat, a large red top hat that looked far too big for most men, yet when this man wore it, it sent shivers down the spine. Or perhaps the shivers were caused by the man's gleaming madness stricken eyes and his smile that horrifyingly took over most of his face.
Four of the five stood waiting as the fifth in the top hat spoke to Gerald's parents. Gerald's father and mother had both lived on this island for years, and their strength was nothing to be scoffed at. And yet they stood terrified of this man. A man who could not even hold a conversation without bursting into fits of raucous laughter as the screams around him grew louder and louder. Then, the man turned away just as Gerald's parents collapsed and he finally saw his men sprawled out in pain, their voices too adding to the din of pain in that night. With another roar of laughter, the man just began laughing, giggling the whole way. He walked past Gerald still giggling seemingly oblivious to everything. When Gerald turned to attempt to attack, the man in the hat didn't even move, and Gerald found himself rooted to the spot. "Hehehehe. Too weak boy. Too weak. Hehehehe," whispered the man. And that's the last thing Gerald could remember before he awoke the next morning to the sun in his eyes.
The only evidence of a fight was a few broken branches and his parents lying motionless on the ground. Gerald's heart plummeted as he rushed to them only to find that both of them were dead. Carpenter's Wood had once had four human inhabitants, then three, and now, it only had one. Swearing revenge for his homeland and his family, Gerald began to build a raft to set sail after those pirates; pirates whose mark he saw in the far off distance that morning, that of a skull and crossbones with a bite taken out of one bone, a handle and spout on the skull and a large hat on top. Although Gerald didn't know this, they were the infamous Mad Tea Party Pirates.
When Gerald set his raft onto the water, he took only a few days worth of provisions, his bokken, and his journals. Each of the animals in cages that night were documented in there and Gerald would find them and return them home one day. As he sailed away from his only home, Gerald saw two shadows in the distance, and as he got closer, he saw that they could only be one thing: boats. Who was on those boats and what tidings did they bring? Only time will tell.

"Nothing like a cup of tea to help pass the time at sea." Orville Williams stood inside of his small houseboat, the Little Leviathan, lifting the teapot from the stove and pouring himself a cup of green tea. It had been a month since he had left Mason Island, and he sat down at the table, sipping his hot beverage. In the month since he had left, Orville had experienced a rather uneventful journey, simply stopping at ports from time to time to refill on supplies. There was a pirate battle or two, but only with incredibly weak pirates, ones that couldn't even compare to the men he fought back on Mason Island. He walked over to and inspected his treasure chest, only to find that it had but a few beris left in it. "At this rate, I'm never going to make a new fortune. I may have to give up adventuring and settle down somewhere, but what could I possibly do? I doubt that most of these seafaring towns have mines for me to explore. Alas, it seems my adventure will end before it went anywhere. Quite the problem, indeed." Orville took a sip of his tea and sat back down at the table, looking out the window. In the distance, he saw a small raft approaching. "A raft? All the way out here? Is there somebody on it?" Orville grabbed his shovel and stepped out onto the deck of the Leviathan to get a better look. As he walked towards the Leviathan's edge, he saw another ship come up to his. A small dinghy. "Well, looks like today won't be so lonely after all."
